Legislature Opens As Hawaii Faces New Session

Tomorrow Acting President Cooper will open Hawaii’s second biennial legislature in a public ceremony. Rev B S Timeton to give the invocation. The message by President Dol and revisions will be printed tomorrow. Several appointments and organizational steps follow as parties prepare for the day's work. The day also marks the death of Charles W Day at his son Dr Francia R Day’s residence in Honolulu. Day, 63, had long ties to Chicago stove firms and the Hawaiian Star. He was a respected Mason with a large family. The day closes with a series of court actions including a $1,000 damage suit trial against Wilder’s Steamship Company and a not guilty verdict in an opium case.

A native prisoner fractured by a rock inside Nugkoa jail was found with a chip of stone in the ball of the eye. Dr. Cooper treated the man at the prison infirmary, and he was reported to retain sight. The prisoner was described as well behaved and diligent.
