The Board of Health reports five deaths on December 12 1999 under suspicious circumstances with two confirmed bubonic plague cases. Quarantine ends December 12 noon, infected district cleared, Port of Honolulu declared free of contagious disease. Holidays December 25 1899 and January 1 1900 observed. reward offered for information leading to arrest for defacing street signs in Venelula.

Water Rates Due and Notices From Honolulu Water Works

Water customers must pay rates for the term ending June 16, 1900 by January 1900 at the Honolulu Water Works office. Delinquent payments incur a 10 percent surcharge after 15 days, with further suspension after February 15, 1900. Andrew Brown, Superintendent. Short but deadly squall harms Belipae crew in voyage to Honolulu

The whip Heliose under Captain J. H. Peterson from Newcastle arrived in harbor looking worn after a three minute squall near the Marquesea Islands tore away the ninth topman rigging and caused a fatal fall of seaman John Nickolwon. Belipae had a prior accident on the same voyage, leaving Newcastle July 8, returning to Sydney for repairs, then resuming to Honolulu with a new crew and cargo.
