Kinney to Represent Planters as Paid Attorney in Congress

W A Kinney will act as paid attorney for Hawaiian sugar planters during congressional consideration of Hawaiian affairs. He will travel to Washington on the 20th or 27th inst to watch legislation, not seek a seat, and he says planters want local knowledge over a stranger to protect their large interests. He expects no special favors but has not received formal instructions yet.

Rejected Chinese Arrivals Under U S Exclusion Laws

J W Gatvin reported at noon thirty four of the sixty nine Chinese r rived in the Giavlio this morning are definitely rejected while fourteen are held for further investigation and the rest are allowed to lead Hawaiian citizens and resident merchants are among those affected Inspector Joshua K Brown declined to predict action if the Hawaiian Supreme Court assumes jurisdiction and releases petitioners in habeas corpus cases saying we'll cross the river when we come to it.

Hawaii Sugar Plantations Eyeed for Shoreline Development

Mr Dillingham notes a large sugar plantation on Keani near a proposed site under examination by Kluegul and himself, predicting gradual shore development. He cites 70000 acres of cane land and adds Maui's Kibei plantation will soon mature, with possible inclusion of homesteaders’ farms at Kihei.

Major Hellevod Relieved at Tadlapandauos Park Hospital

Major Davie Hellevod and Major Davis formerly in charge of the Silitary hospital at Tadlapandauos park have been replaced. Major M W Wood, seasoned Regular Army surgeon, assumes the post. Dr Davis is ordered home to rejoin his regiment.
