Senate Hurries Three Bills Through In A Hurry

The Senate, called to order, hears Minister Hatch present three bills repealing old statutes. One repeals all prior cable laws, another revokes Act 27 of 1886 on water passage for nonbeneficiaries, and a third repeals Act 60 of 1890 on agricultural railways. All passed first and second readings. adjournment follows.

Representatives Debate Tramway Privilege Extension

After the opening of the House, bills and resolutions were reported by the President. The tramways bill faced amendment to extend the Hawaiian Tramways Co.'s electricity privilege to 1897, with debate over timing and feasibility. The amendment was lost and the bill passed. Senate alcohol amendments were discussed, with section 5 and 6 changes debated. Joint committees on Registration, Liquor, and Great Seal named. adjournment set for tomorrow.

Farewell Bennington Boat Party and Local Court Highlights

On the Bennington the crew prepared for a farewell boat party and dance for officers ordered to the Coast. Judge Perry presided in a District Court where Mark Lyon faced a vulgar language charge and was fined after a disputed interpretation of public place. A. Coelho was fined $10 plus costs for insulting language. Joe, the native who injured a policeman, faced preliminary examination later today.

Portuguese girl’s alleged assault case stands in court

Domingos Ferreira, accused by a father of a 17 year old Portuguese girl, is on bonds awaiting trial for a serious offense after allegedly enticing her from Punchbowl and assaulting her at Waikiki. The girl, still affected by the abuse, has testified as the case advances with Ferreira in custody following a prior escape.
