Pineapple Cannery at Emmveluth Pack Time

The Pineapple Cannery at Emmveluth and Kidwell’s plantation operates at full blast aiming for four to five thousand cases of first class canned fruit this season. Count and Countess Mutsu Depart Honolulu Voyage Home

The Countess and Count Mutsu will leave Honolulu by the steamer China soon. The Count, unwell with pulmonary issues, has benefited from the sea voyage and stay. The Countess is also ailing, though the Count is pleased with the country and climate, and his visit is remembered fondly by the President and Cabinet.

Funeral services for Phil Braun in Honolulu

The late Phil Braun and his wife were mourned by immediate friends as they accompanied the body to St. Andrew's Cathedral. Pallbearers from the volunteer fire department rode to the cemetery where Lev. Alex Mackintosh conducted the service and Wray Taylor played. The casket bore a silver name plate reading Ernst Otto Philip Braun born Kassel Germany July 25 1842 died Honolulu August 2 1906. Interment was in the volunteer fire department lot marked by a tall marble shaft. Beautiful island views on King Street showcase each prominent point painted by local artists.

Fire alarm incident and mule accident on Maunakes Street

A fire in a two story wooden building on Maunakes Street near Queen caused minor damage when flames from a matting pile were nipped by firemen. A second incident injured a horse pulling a hose wagon at Nuuanu and Hotel streets near the Cosmopolitan saloon, and the animal was shot after being deemed beyond treatment.

District Court clears cases and sets Dole trial date

In the District Court this morning Henry Dole was ordered to trial on the 7th for obstructing an officer. Ah Kani paid a $50 fine for saving opium in possession. Ah Tong pleaded guilty to possessing a chain ticket and was fined $20 plus costs. Yong Yee and Tong Tak were discharged after a preliminary burglary examination found insufficient evidence. Juan Boanries, charged with larceny of fruit from George Carter, was discharged as the case was nolle pros.

China steamer China sets multiple speed records on last voyage

The steamship China of the Pacific Steam Company departed Honolulu on the 13th and broke two voyage records from Honolulu to San Francisco and Yokohama to San Francisco. It completed the Honolulu to San Francisco run in 6 days 11 hours 11 minutes surpassing its own record by 2 hours 8 minutes. The ship averaged 16 knots Honolulu to San Francisco and 18 knots Yokohama to Honolulu, with other record times noted for Yokohama to Hong Kong and related legs. Chief Steward Goodchild plans to quit steamboating, accepting a post at the Hongkong Hotel upon the China’s arrival.

Port-street merchant M S Levy retires amid business woes

M S Levy, a Port-street dry goods merchant, left for Kalihi on Monday without informing family or staff. Police later brought him back to town. creditors attacked the store in his absence and a guard was placed at the door. Reports varied on his fate as he appeared dazed, while community sympathy was anticipated for his failure. The piece also touts The Criterion Saloon as a place to drink Seattle beer.
