Former proprietor announces he will continue the business at No 10 Fort Street under his name after purchasing from the Waterhouse estate. He thanks patrons for past support and pledges a full line of dry and fancy goods at low prices to ensure continued liberal patronage.
Imports list champagne houses and brands entering the United States from January 1 1895 noting firms such as Moet et Chandon Ruinart Louis Roederer and Veuve Commier with Detbeek and Co. and Hoidtstock among others totaling 81 859 in value.
The Senate reports a favorable bill to grant to the United Chinese Society a land plot for a hospital site after a petition from Chinese residents. A street railway franchise bill for Hilo and an article amendment for the Post Office Department pass first readings. House Bill No. 23 on legacies and bequests passes third reading unanimously. session adjourns at 10 18.
Eleven members attended roll call as House members noted passage of House Bill No. 22 to committee on Passed Bills. Rep Winston reported on House and Senate Bill No. 25 to alter fire limits with the recommendation to strike section 1. A leper settlement inquiry on Molokai was proposed with a five or nine member committee to investigate medical attendance and conditions, sparking debate over scope and authority.
Rep Hanna urged forming a five member Molokai investigation committee to hear testimony from affected parties. Over 1400 leper residents were referenced. actions aimed at improving conditions while preserving rights. House debated bills on public street curfew for youths, protection of young girls feet, eminent domain procedures, and expanding representatives.
Senator Da Mon’s bill seeks a $750,000 public works appropriation funded from new loan proceeds. The list includes new school buildings, jails, fire stations, coast and harbor works, roads from Hilo to Kahului, water and sewer projects, and multiple wharf constructions across Oahu and neighbor islands. The measure specifies bidding requirements and takes effect on publication.
