Republican Committee Ruling Shapes Hutchinson Nomination
The Hutchinson plantation manager Walters was initially barred from nominating at the Hat voting due to a rule requiring written nominations. A telegram ruling from the Republican Committee stated Section 1 Article 1 applies only to fall conventions, and Walters’s nomination by members of the club was accepted. The result shows Walters failed to gain a decisive majority at the polls.
