Arrival of the Roanoke the largest American merchant ship at Honolulu

The Roanoke docked at Oceanic wharf as the harbor’s biggest American merchant vessel. Built in 1892 at Bath Maine, 50 000 tons gross, 311 feet long, 49 feet wide. Senate Passes Chinese Immigration and Tax Bills in Session

The Senate completed third readings on several measures including Senate Bill No. 11 on Chinese immigration and a patent law amendment. A resolution disapproved a Hawaii island protest against large internal improvements, urging executive accountability. Hawaiians oppose target shooting petition and court reform proposal

On Avri 5 the House of Representatives received a petition from native Hawaiians against target shooting. Winston presented a petition from twenty one Chinese tailors against a proposed license tax. Rep Robertson reported on a Senate bill to give Circuit Court Judges concurrent jurisdiction with Private Ways and Water Rights Commissioners. The committee favored abolishing the commissioners and proposed a substitute bill. Richards reported on Hilo meeting resolutions to be laid on the table pending Executive and Senate action. Also noted were customs and post office item items, salaries for the Secretary and a record clerk, and a proposed reduction of pus roll funds, all tabled for consideration with the bill.
