Two Years of Water Works Bureau Report Details

From Superintendent Brown's biennial report on the Bureau of Water Works: appropriations for the Berean work totaled 869,500 with all but 131.72 expended. receipts reached 122,419.175 from city water rates penalties shipping labor and material. Four hundred fourteen new privileges were granted at rates 85 to 250 per year. 25 were discontinued for nonpayment. Districts saw extensive pipe installations and relaying including 4500 feet 12 inch pipe on Beretauia and Makiki, 6500 feet 8 inch pipe on King Street, and numerous upgrades plus fifty new fire hydrants. Increased pumping demands necessitate continued operation of Makiki and Beretania plants. Additional spending requests include 60,000 for new 12 and 20 inch pipes, 5,000,000 gallon pumping engines, and two new reservoirs under Interior Department. The report also notes 1,190,007,011 gallons pumped and 1816 tons coal consumed during the period. Captain Howers married Julia Lowell at Kamehameha Girls School with a large reception.

John Gillman bicycle rider was found guilty in the police court this morning of being on the premises of another at night without lawful excuse. He was ordered imprisoned for 30 days. An appeal was taken directly to the Supreme Court on points of law. J T De Bolt appeared for the defendant.
