At Burrav o on August 10 the committee on nominations voted to nominate Martin Van Buren for the Presidency. The convention planned to consider the nomination this afternoon with closes doors. An informal vote gave Van Buren 159 votes to Hale 129. Charles F. Adams appears likely for Vice President.
In Burraro on August 10 at 9 PM Chas Francis Adams was nominated for vice president by acclamation in a formal party gathering.
In Iowa the Democratic ticket won counties Lee and Desmoines while Whigs carried Muscatine Henry and Van Buren with one Whig and one Democratic representative. Whigs also won in Wapello Monroe and Potawatomi. In Missouri Whigs carried Saline Cooper Clark Warren Montgomery Boone St Francisco and Washington with four Whig representatives. Democrats won St Charles Lincoln Pike and Howard with two reps. Majorities were small.
In Wilkes County North Carolina the Democratic side shows gains with 300 votes noted while the legislative outcome remains doubtful. General Butler traveled from Baltimore this morning and the French minister has been presented to the President.
From North Carolina dated Aug 10, reports Reed as likely elected in the Democratic lead. Ashe County shows 293 to 283 for Lincoln with other counties Rutherford Cleveland and Buncombe Wilkes Surry contributing small majorities. Legislature outcome remains doubtful.
Early returns from the state show Crittenden leading by about 7000 votes. The legislature appears predominantly Whig in both houses.
