Johnson meeting in Baltimore draws crowds. Riots among émigrés in New York. General Ashboth dies as Congress convenes.
Montana dispatches report Blackfeet Indians have begun their yearly raid along the Benton Road from Kennedy's ranch to Guo River. They killed one man, took over a hundred horses, and disrupted Wells Fargo coaches. Kennedy ranch burned, Mrs Kennedy and children captured. About a hundred Indians encircle Fort Laramie, threatening settlers and already looting stock.
Reports from New Orleans detail marching units passing St Charles Avenue amid cheers for Jeff Davis. Regiments near Hancock’s headquarters removed hats as bands played the Bonnie Blue Flag while six of thirty companies displayed the U S flag. Loyal citizens express indignation and fear possible trouble tonight.
March 4 meeting at Front Street Theatre to support President Johnson draws dense attendance. Mayor Banks presided with over one hundred vice presidents. speeches by Gov. Swann and several named officials. March 5 conference notes from Methodist church bishops Daggett and Simpson in session.

The Havana report notes the Cadiz vessel reached St Johns February 29. The Alice Ball is loading arms for Valparaiso while the Sarah Newman transfers war materiel. Porto Rico officials push for St Johns as a free port and aim to attract British mail steamers. Breadstuffs are scarce and telegraph links to hotels are planned. A murderer’s case in the region sees a gangster jailed. punishment may extend years.
A National Convention of refiners and dealers in petroleum met at the Board of Trade Room in Piltssurg on March 5 to discuss reducing oil prices, contract systems, and a permanent national petroleum association. D. P. Kells of Cleveland was elected Permanent President with A. F. Brooks of Pittsburgh as Secretary. delegates from across the United States welcomed harmonious proceedings.

Irishmen armed with pitch forks and clubs confront Germans barricaded in a hospital basement. The melee ends with four dead, eighteen wounded, and eighty-six rioters ferried to a police guarded building. Emigrants vow renewed violence once police depart. Daniel Lord dies. court adjourns as a respect.
Toronto March 4 The first session of the Ontario Local Parliament was prorogued today. The Hovgenos assented to all bills including a provision for free grants of land and exemptions to actual settlers.
In the Kentucky Senate a number of Senate and House bills passed with little general business. The House approved a bill setting Adjutant and Quartermaster Generals salaries. A House resolution urged various counties and cities to propose relocation of the state capital, with a January reporting deadline. The Senate trimmed the Governor’s salary to 5000 dollars and the General Assembly Bill passed. The monument over Daniel Boone and wife was repaired by resolution.
In San FranciscoGovernor Deus sends a message to the Senate declining to forward the resolution endorsing Congress action on the Presidents impeachment, saying it would improperly sway Senate judgment. The Assembly resolutions of sympathy are treated differently and sustained by the Lieutenant-Govoters casting vote.
A Montagus Court House letter details Indian attacks in Western Texas. Whites were captured and fired. victims include Lesther Merasco Arthur Park hill Thos Fiterandy Patrick Long Mrs Shegoy and child. A child was killed the mother escaped. A mail party near Buffalo Springs was killed and a government train with forty mules captured. teamsters escaped. The region is being deserted.
The Westlake Hutchins & Co refinery in Cleveland was burned at 10 o clock last night causing an estimated loss of 30000 dollars, partly insured. Fire crews fought the blaze through the night but the refinery was destroyed.
On March 5 two men on the steamer Richmond moored at Portland harbor engaged in a dispute. One man, Frank, was killed during the confrontation after stabbing Richerd Johnson, who then pursued Frank and fired a pistol, killing him.
On March 5 Wasuthevon the President signed measures extending the Du buque and Sioux City Railroad completion time and authorizing the Light House Board to place warnings in harbors bays and sounds.
Ansany November report says the bill abolishing the contracting board and the office of canal auditor passed the Assembly.
In Annapolis Missouri on March 5 the Legislature held three ballots for U.S. Senator but no election occurred. On the third ballot Thomas received 28 votes and Swann 24 votes.
