The Board of Commissioners for the Soldiers Home at Knightstown Springs Rush County presented a report after meeting in the Governor's rooms. They note the home began under private care and is now state controlled since March. They describe a new building planned to replace the old, with 150 by 60 feet and three stories, cost around 250000. The report mentions health, finances, and inmate numbers including 113 residents and nine orphans. The current plan and past performance support expanded homes in the state and repurposing old buildings. The Republican State Convention will be held at Morrison's Opera Hall instead of Miller's due to timing and expense.

Dublin trials move forward with murder treason libel cases. In Italy Admiral Farrazat is to be feted in a grand banquet. Austria reports Reichsrat reconvening and Count De Marches illness.
New York revenue officers seized spirits in Boston yesterday amid complaints by F. E. Sanderson. Inspector Conolly was arrested on a Massachusetts Superior Court writ and soon discharged. Sanderson faces perjury charges and actions for false imprisonment and damages. Also, Edward N. Perkins mansion in Jamaica Plain burned, loss about 70 000 dollars, partly insured.
In Kentucky, Senator Guthrie resigns prompting discussion of his replacement. Governor to fill vacancy, with Lieutenant Governor Stevenson and Mr. Stanton among possible picks. Voters may face a decision on an additional school tax amid political maneuvering and local speculation.
Advices from Nicaragua report W H Webbs efforts for a new Transit fail after insisting on exclusive rights in exchange for 320000 from the old Central American Transit Company. No one will pay the 000 due, ending the Nicaragua transit scheme. Government to regulate terms with Col J C Woods for a new railroad concession. In New York the American Exchange Bank shows a 760000 deficit, with Bulte the assistant cashier unlikely to be prosecuted.
A blaze swept the Bank of Montreal in Canada on February 10 and was extinguished after great effort by firemen. The building suffered extensive smoke and water damage. Two women servants were nearly suffocated. Losses not yet estimated. Also reporting: Prof. Rebate of the University of Rochester died February 11.

San Francisco February reports the state Legislature weighing moving the capital from Sacramento. San Jose offers use of a site for five years and land for a Capitol building with citizen funding, inviting lawmakers to visit at local expense as the session adjourns. Also notes arrivals and sailings of ships in port.
In Alabama on February 10 the constitutional vote results were reported with fewer than required by half. Early counts show white support near half and an estimated 1,000 or more black voters not yet reflected in the tallies.
Milwaukee weather reports a moderation in cold with subzero readings across Wisconsin. Winona and La Crosse stay below zero, Sparta records 16 below, Maieon cites 15 below with other towns also experiencing extreme cold.
A fire this afternoon destroyed the largest factory in Indiana, owned by Messrs. Stero. About 50,000 in value was fully insured. In Trenton February the constitutional amendment debate and related joint resolutions with New Jersey were postponed due to a senator’s illness.
In St Paul Minnesota on February 11 the jury reached a verdict in the capital murder case. The defendant stands accused in a high profile killing with jurors deliberating on the charge.
Fire at the Cleveland Safe Company mill caused about 20000 in damage before morning. The blaze was covered by insurance.
A fragment lists lumber prices and products offered by J Glover James Swanson and Fred Geil. Items include pine sash, moldings, quarter-round, and window components. The notice appears to advertise distribution through post office or alternate channels with prices and orders sought.
