Fourth annual VFW July 4 celebration opens in Eustis Ferran Park
The event begins at 1 PM with invocation by Rev. Allen Bunte and a flag ceremony by the Eustis Elks Club. Woman's Club Joins Bell Crusade For Independence Day
The Woman's Club of Eustis partners with the American Legion and civic groups to revive bell ringing on the Fourth of July. The Joyous Sound of Freedom movement, started by Eric Sloane and Ed Fitzgerald, has spread to about 20,000 cities in two years. Bells will ring four minutes nationwide at a set time, with radio stations playing famous bell tones and excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. Churches without bells will use chimes. The public affairs committee led by Mrs. Donald Bennett coordinates the effort with members Mrs. J. Thomas Earnest, Mrs. J. A. Ferguson, Mrs. Harry A. Holstein, and Mrs. Leslie Huffstetler, who will provide more information.

Eustis Fire Dept Rescues Boys From Lake Eustis
Eustis Fire Department answered a rescue call on Lake Eustis Monday afternoon. Two boys, Tony Campbell 13 and Billy Wood 12, were in a sail boat when they lost a paddle and Billy jumped in to retrieve it. The annual Policeman's Ball by the Eustis Police Department supports their retirement fund and will be held Saturday July 2 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the community building.

Civic leader dies in sky diving mishap at lake
Alexander Francis Chisholm 38, a Golden Falcon Parachute Club member, died after a sky dive at Umatilla Airport. Wind and gear weight pulled him into a lake. fellow divers resuscitated him and he died at Waterman Hospital in Eustis. He owned Lake County Concrete Co. of Eustis and lived there three and a half years. He was born in Meadville Pennsylvania.
