Eagle Scout Hugh Campbell of Troop 8 Eustis narrowly loses the central Florida selection for a European Jamboree trip to Howard Gould of Orlando. The Florida Chain Store Association would fund one Central Florida Scout with nominees from each troop meeting in Orlando on June 18. Gould, 17, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 24, Orlando, edged Campbell for the trip with Campbell named as alternate.

Huey Campbell earned an alternate spot to the world wide Jamboree to be held in France in August. He will depart late July for Raleigh North Carolina then New Jersey for a short camp before sailing with more than 1000 U S Scouts to France. Mrs Mable Howard retires from Eustis schools after over three decades of service, including recent years as high school librarian. A native of Eustis and valedictorian of the first Eustis High School class, she earned a BSE from Florida State College for Women and studied at Peabody College and the University of Florida. Her teaching career began in Astor, then Gainesville, Miami, Lake Jem, and Astatula, with final tenure at Eustis High.
