City Passes First Reading on Cigarette Tax Ordinance
The city council approved the first of three readings of an ordinance to align the tax code with a State Legislature cigarette tax hike. The measure increases municipal cigarette tax shares and takes effect July 1, with the second reading July 1 and third July 15. The June meeting also approved a four-lot Sunset Island lease for a Wayside park and boat ramp and discussed naming the Little League field Matthews Field with an opening targeted for July 4. Bank names Mead as chairman Warfield as president in Eustis
The First National Bank & Trust Company of Eustis announced at its monthly meeting that Edwin Budge Mead becomes chairman of the board and Robert F. Warfield Jr. is named president. Mead, a former Miami Beach resident, has led the Eustis bank since 1956 and held prior posts in Lake County and Florida banks. Warfield, 38, has served as executive vice president since 1961 after roles at Zephyrhills Bank and Fulton National Bank, Atlanta, with active service in WW II and Korea.
