Night Blooming Cereus Shines In Marsh Yard Display

C R Marsh of Eustis showcases a dramatic night blooming cereus on a tall palm at 19 Pendleton street. The plant, grown from a cutting by Mr and Mrs Marsh, bore 68 blooms the night the photo was taken and is expected to bloom further in the next ten nights.

Judge Hall to Speak at Sunday Joint Church Meeting

Judge W. Troy Hall Jr of the County Court will address a joint meeting of youth groups from Methodist Episcopalian Church of Christ and Presbyterian churches Sunday at 6 pm at the Presbyterian Church. The program titled The Legality of the Child Jesus by Pilate is under the Westminster fellowship. All residents are invited.

Eustis Schools Open Summer Program From June 16

The Eustis Schools launch a two month summer program from June 16 through August 15. Activities run at Sar the elementary and high schools for students entering next year, with schedules for high school and elementary levels including soft ball, crafts, library access, band, swimming, baseball, and dance. Pugh Brothers Take Over Eustis Cleaners Firm

Announcement this week that Pugh Brothers of Eustis purchase Ayer's Cleaners. Hannis and Buford Pugh board graduates of Eustis High School now manage the downtown plant on Eustis Street. D T Ayers stays on in advisory capacity for several months. New firm name is Pugh's Dry Cleaning.

Edward Furlong, director of the Stetson University School of Business in Deland, spoke at the Eustis Rotary Club meeting last Friday. He argued the smaller college offers better individual leadership development and noted Stetson as the oldest accredited southeastern school ahead in progressive education.

Stebbins Hospitalized After Jacksonville Surgery

City judge Frank W. Stebbins and Eustis attorney underwent surgery yesterday at Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville. Mrs. Stebbins accompanied him in Jacksonville, where the couple are involved in medical care.

Garden Clubs Start Drive For Mosquito Control Plan

A Monday police court session heard a colored woman rebuke her husband Eddie Williams after he was charged with no conduct and abusive language. Williams was fined. court costs totaled $3. The weekend saw a spate of arrests blamed on the full moon, including a drunken driving case with $125 fine and license revocation, and other fines for speeding, drunkenness, and license suspensions. Health Workers Discuss Council Luncheon Speakers

Mrs Elva Tromater a public health nurse and Burke Chester county health officer spoke at the Eustis Health Council meeting held June 9 at the Grand View Hotel. The newly formed council meets monthly and invites all residents to the 12 15 luncheon. Elaine Lind Wins Ear Miss Lind named valedictorian of her class of 49 and was the sole female speaker at graduation.

Garden clubs push countywide mosquito control plan

The Garden Clubs of Lake County urge a county tax funded program to control and eradicate mosquitos. A poll of taxpayers shows support for a one half mill levy in the 1949 50 budget. Experimental fog machine work will occur in Leesburg Eustis and Mount Dora with state and federal health agencies backing the effort.

Three Die in Auto Accident Near Tampa

Mrs Anna Clark Martin Mrs Margaret Whittaker and her daughter Susan all of Eustis died from injuries in an auto crash nine miles north of Tampa on the Dade City highway. The car skidded on a curve in rain and overturned. Mrs Martin died instantly while Whittaker and Susan died hours later at Municipal Hospital in Tampa. Funeral services were held in Stanton Kentucky.
