Slaton Addresses Eustis Health Council Luncheon

H T Slaton principal of Eustis elementary school spoke at the Eustis Health and Welfare Council luncheon at Grand View Hotel. He described the Southern Association of Secondary Schools reval uation survey and said Eustis was one of 15 Florida schools included. He noted 99 percent questionnaire responses and announced council adjournment to the second Thursday in September.

Baptist Bible School Begins Monday Morning

The First Baptist Church announces a daily vacation Bible school starting Monday. Sessions run Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for two weeks.

Girl Scouting Film Shown At State Theatre

The state theatre will show a technicolor film about girl scouting next Tuesday June 20. The movie follows a girl from brownie level to senior scout and international encampment, with no professional actors. It is an added attraction to the regular feature, says local manager Reddick.

Licone to Report as Eustis Police Officer June 20

J. W. Licone will report June 20 as police officer for the city of Eustis. He will be on night duty after serving the past year as moot policeman. Licone received a diploma from the police school of instruction conducted this Spring in Lake County. He is a World War II veteran.

July 4 Jamboree Set By Eustis Lions Club

The Eustis Lions Club votes to hold a July 4 Jamboree at the Legion Hall featuring fireworks a gopher race barbecue and a baseball game Warner Dillard is general chairman with committees named for gopher race barbecue baseball publicity and work details The club also reports progress of the Recreation Council and the entry of a Lions Club team in the city softball league.

Dr Bowen Found After Nightlong Jeep Search

Dr Louis R Bowen went riding at his Sorento ranch and was found at about 11 pm after a jeep brigade scoured 500 acres of woods. He had a crushed leg from a fall when his horse stepped into a gopher hole. He was taken to Waterman Memorial Hospital in good condition.

Hall Named Flag Day Speaker for Ferran Park Ceremony

The Eustis Jaycees host a "throw the bull" contest with a statue prize to be displayed in the Eustis News window. Skip Holloway chairs the committee with aid from Shorty Broadway Sandy Hershey and James Clower. Neva's, a children’s shop, opens Tuesday in Eustis as a branch of Mount Dora store. Operated by Mrs. Neva Marty, the shop serves customers from infants to pre-teens. Mrs. Marty moved to Lake County five years ago from New York and previously ran the Mount Dora store for three years.

Brown's Hardware Is Remodeled

Work began this week on the remodeling and redecorating of Brown's hardware store in Eustis. New shelves will add about 20 percent more merchandise as owner Paul Brown notes while new countertops and fluorescent lighting replace the old system.

Eustis Troop 7 Plans Semi Permanent Camp On Long Island

Eustis Boy Scouts of Troop 7 will establish a semi permanent camp on Long Island in Lake Harris this summer. George Kleiser, owner of Kleiser Fish, leases the island for the project. Scouts will cut brush with machetes and build a camp from island materials, using knives axes and rakes, with weekends and special week camps planned. The site offers sandy beaches clear water and natural resources for merit badge work supervised by adult leaders Bob Sieg J Nelson and Jake Nelson.

Four Major Accidents Over Weekend Hit Eustis

Weekend traffic in Eustis produced four major accidents and two minor crashes. A dog caused Claude Estes to steer into Harley Morse’s Chevrolet, then into a Pontiac. total damage about 460 dollars. Clifford Wilson’s 1936 sedan and Col Close’s 1949 Mercury collided at Lakeview and Grove, Wilson fined 30 dollars for reckless driving. Sunday night a Buick and a Ford sustained about 950 and 128 dollars in damages respectively. a Greyhound bus and a laundry truck also suffered about 300 dollars in damage as rain slick streets worsened conditions.

Fishing Contest Opens At Strong's Sporting Goods

The contest runs through November 15 with no entry fee. Weighing is at Strong's most days, with Wednesday afternoons Sundays and holidays at the city fire station. Prizes include a store ball for 8 pound bass or heavier and weekly lines or gear. Final prizes aim for the largest bass with fishing rods and reels as awards.
