Kiwanis Guests Will Hear Vo-Tech Center Plan Details
Kenneth A. Bragg, director of the Lake County Area Vocational Technical Center, speaks to the Eustis Kiwanis on May 11 about the Federal Act of 1968 and center funding. On June 18, Marie Willis will bring six students to explain Vo Tech meaning, and on June 25 more center students present. The Center’s programs cover Agriculture Mechanics to Climate Control with new Building Trades and Welding to be added. The first graduation is set for June 27 at Mount Dora Community Building with Commissioner Floyd Christian as guest speaker. 125 to 150 students will receive certificates.

Florida Trail grows with 1000 members in state effort
Al Stone of Leesburg reports Florida Trail Association now has about 1000 members and rapid growth as it plans numerous events. He notes 150 miles completed north of Everglades City and about 300 miles projected, comparing the effort to the Appalachian Trail and stressing Florida’s hiking appeal.

Waterman Memorial Hospital Names New Director of Nursing
Mrs. Margaret H. Wheeler joined Waterman Memorial Hospital as director of nursing service. A 1944 Grant Hospital School of Nursing graduate, she served in the U S Army Nurse Corps from 1945 to 1962 with stations in India, the Philippine Islands, Japan, Germany and Iran. She holds a B S in nursing education and an M A in nursing administration and has held multiple nursing leadership roles in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital. She also served as vice president of the National League for Nursing and was past president of the American Nurses Association ninth district in Iowa.

Cassia Day Draws Hundreds For Eleventh Celebration
The Cassia Community Club held its eleventh Cassia Day on April 25 at the club grounds with Vern Eveland welcoming attendees and Ray Robbins of Sumter Electric assisting. Prizes were drawn on the haywagon platform as kids competed in egg and spoon, balloon race, sack race and three legged events with metal cars and troll doll banks awarded.

New license tags go on sale for 1969 70 plates
The 1969 70 license plates go on sale Monday June 2 per county tag agent and tax collector Paul H Reed. A branch office in Eustis at 2500 S Bay St with Paul V Hudson in charge will issue tags. New tags are white reflectorized numbers on a green background and must be displayed by midnight July 20. The article notes prizes and events at a community gathering in Eustis with organizers including Lee Funderburk Bennet Hammond and others, drawing 300 attendees and awarding a turkey and ham.

Eustis High Graduation on Field Amid Light Rain Delays
Eustis High School held commencement on the football field with graduates in white gowns as E. M. Weichert urged higher education. A piano mishap delayed Pomp and Circumstance, but the program proceeded to a gym ceremony after rain began. Valedictorian Mike Carpenter and salutatorian Linda Mielke led a large class heading to Florida and out-of-state colleges, the Air Force, and the military.
