City Eustis class action settlement restores fire protection
A settlement between the City of Eustis and residents of Three Lakes Subdivision will restore fire protection to about 1000 city water users. The June 2 Eustis City Commission vote approved a two year old suit, with the city paying 10000 in attorney fees and offering one year of free fire protection plus six more years at one dollar per month. The suit arose after rates were raised to 2.2 times the city rate contrary to a state law setting 1.5 as the maximum.

City considers water charge settlement and new zoning for adult venues
City Attorney Buzz Bowen advised commissioners that trial could be costly and urged accepting the water charge settlement pending public hearing and judge approval. A charter change is needed to allow five units, while Ordinance 77-15 to regulate adult venues was introduced and read. a $750 license and extensive background checks are proposed.
