The Eustis City Council moves to extend District 4-A zoning to all unzoned city lands. A public hearing is set for July 2 at 8 p.m. in the City Council room to discuss conforming building setbacks. The notice appears in Legal Notices in this issue.
E. Everett Huskey, a local builder and developer, buys 15.4 acres on Rainbow Ridge by East Crooked Lake to create 25 homesites averaging a half acre each. Prices range from 2500 to 5000 dollars with paved streets and full improvements, plus a lakefront view, a 22 foot cruiser for prospectors, and financing help.
The second annual summer twirling clinic runs June 11 through 15 at Eustis High School. Events include junior primary to senior high twirling and strutting contests with medals for top places and a gold baton finals. Open to all area groups with a $1 registration fee.
Five Eustis area students graduated from Stetson University at an early morning commencement. Don Mann and George Martin Stephens earned bachelor of science degrees while Nancy Lee Ourens and John P. Westervelt received bachelor of arts or science degrees respectively. Mrs. Robert Huffstetler and the late details highlight their activities and honors.
City department responded to three separate fire alarms within the city during May, with crews dispatched to each incident and investigations ongoing. No injuries reported, damage details pending official assessment.
Fines and forfeitures in Eustis Police Court totaled 1926 during May. A total of 108 arrests were made. The Police Department investigated five auto accidents and five company larceny cases during the month.
The summer band program starts Monday June 11 as part of the summer recreation program directed by Don Jennings. Schedule lists Junior Band from 9 to 10 a.m and 10 to 10:30 a.m. duration with participants named including Oranne Pet Roberts Billison Kiams Lee Gray and Joes Glenn al.
The annual Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church starts Monday and runs two weeks through June 22. Rev. Phil Padgett leads as general principal with two daily sessions for nursery, primary, and junior children.
The First Methodist Church will run a Vacation Bible School from June 11 through June 22. Daily sessions run 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. for boys and girls ages 4 to 12. The program includes Bible study worship singing crafts and refreshments under directing.
Cadet Rae A McKinney of Eustis Florida received a Bachelor of Science in commerce from The Citadel Charleston South Carolina on June 2. He was an Army ROTC student and held memberships in the Cadet Chair American Association Economic Honor Society Distinguished Military Student Gold Stars and Sphinx staff. He graduated from high school in 1951 and is the son of Mr and Mrs R H Kinney of Eustis.
The Leesburg Braves host the Cocoa Indians at Venetian Gardens in Leesburg tonight at 8. Residents from Eustis and Umatilla and nearby areas are invited to pass through the gate free of charge without ID. Braves officials aim to thank local fans and plan similar community nights in other areas.
