Carter to Speak at Red Cross Meet in Mount Dora

Allen J. Carter will address the annual Mount Dora Red Cross meeting at the Community Building. A joint Kiwanis Lions dinner precedes the 7 p.m. program with reservations at $1.00 a plate. Carter, a regional Red Cross director, is noted for drought relief work and long service in Virginia, North Carolina, and the Southeast.

The Eustis Health and Welfare Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Grand View. Members will discuss upcoming programs and community services for residents.

Savage Honored as District Deputy Grand Master

E M Savage appointed District Deputy Grand Master of this York Rite district at the Miami convocation. The charter from Grand Council was given to Golden Triangle Council Royal and Select Masters of Eustis. Savage serves as Illustrious Master and holds multiple offices. Maney, Savage, and Kenneth Sears of Tavares represented the Eustis York Rite at the event.

New Selling Method At Browns Hardware

Brown's Hardware of Eustis introduces a pay as you go plan for popular Frigidaire refrigerators using a quarter meter that provides 24 hours of electricity per box purchased. The electronic meter requires a 25 cent insertion to activate each unit. The new method has drawn wide attention across sections of the area.

Bridge Brought In By Barges Reaches Final Beam

Materials delivered by eight barges on route from Columbia enabled the erection of the final steel beam for a 3130 foot steel and concrete bridge crossing Little Harris. The Wannamaker and Wells project links Jacksonville to Tampa replacing a two mile wooden structure. Construction began December 1 1949 with use planned by November 1 1950.

McKeown Speaks To Kiwanians At Grand View Hotel

Rev. J. F. McKeown pastor of St Marys of the Lakes in Eustis was principal speaker at a Kiwanis Club meeting at the Grand View Hotel. The 1950 Eustis High School graduates were honored guests. The club is contributing to sending a boy to Boys State in Tallahassee.

UF to Graduate Record 1358 Students This Year

Marshall and Carson will graduate June 5 from the University of Florida. Marshall earns a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration while Carson receives a Master’s in Agriculture. The university will award a record 1,358 degrees, surpassing the prior high of 912 in 1949.

Miller Wins State Honors in Florida Skish Competitions

Eddie Miller of Eustis dominated state and national skish events, earning the Florida State Outdoor Skish Championship and later chairs the 1950 national tournament. He placed second nationally in 1940 and won the Miami Beach Rod and Reel Club fly casting in 1948. He led Florida indoor all around in 1949 and plans a July meet in Miami with free Ikish instruction for locals.

Summer Program Plans Outlined

The Eustis summer recreation program opens in June at 1 30 p m with a water safety course at Lake Gracie led by Sandy Hershey athletic director. Classes range from beginners to senior life saving and are open to community participants.

Famed Coach Teaches Tennis in Eustis Summer Program

International tennis star Dr. Hugo A. Curry offers group lessons at Ferran Park starting tomorrow at 9 a.m. and every Tuesday and Friday 9 to 12 noon as part of Eustis summer recreation. Curry, his wife, and family are noted figures with broad tourney experience and a plan to boost local tennis interest and court development in Mount Dora and Eustis.
