The City Commissioners accepted the State Road Department plan to widen Orange Ave to 48 feet, with trees to be replanted on private property if owners agree. The vote followed a prior request for 36 feet to preserve trees. Mayor Hamlin dissented.
Reverend Bruce Pickering minister of First Methodist Church Eustis will deliver a Christmas message as club speaker at the event. The address emphasizes seasonal themes and community fellowship within the church group.
Town program directed by Mrs. Ray featured student performances of Dear Santa measles song Rudolph the red nosed reindeer Si lent Night and White Christmas. Report notes bright singing by Keith Mitnik Patty Outlaw Budge Huskey and others with Debbie Campbell on piano link to local holiday joy.
An all aluminum citrus picker built by I W Richardson Company of Lady Lake will be shown on the Red Skelton Hour on December 27 in a Reynolds Aluminum sponsored ad. Shown first at the 1966 Florida Industries Exposition, the machine can replace about 15 hand pickers under average conditions, addressing labor shortages in the fruit industry.
The 4-H Club of Cassia teams with the Community Club for a Dec 23 program at 7 30 p m at the club building. Paula Funderburk wrote and directed the play with students in all the 4-H groups taking roles. Music by Mrs Heinrich Perlich and social dancing follow with treats prepared by the Foods and Nutrition group led by Mrs Lee Funderburk. Vern Eveland and Bob Gwann invite all to end Cas sio’s pre holiday activities with this event.
The Eustis Rotary Club charity ball will start at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday December 31 at the Eustis Community Center with Maynard Burgess and his orchestra performing from 10 p.m. to the end. The orchestra will play waltz fox trot polka and other requests. Free refreshments noisemakers and hats will be provided. Proceeds go toward air conditioning for schools. Tickets available from committee members Len Williams D C Waters John Maimone and Bill Ward or any Rotary member.
A community Christmas carol sing will be held Christmas Eve at 7 30 p.m. at Eustis Civic Center. Thirty minutes of singing for the entire family will be held. The sing is sponsored by Eustis Ministerial Association.
Kenneth M. Beegle of Harbor Shores Grand Island named Commodore of the Eustis Boating Club at the December supper and election. Ernest H. Hartge steps down. Col John Whistler is Vice Commodore Geo M McConkey treasurer and Gen B F Hayford corresponding secretary. New members include Stanley Valentine Metzler and Gen A Love couples.
