Fifty Ton Mill At Cortez Mine Promising New Producer

Captain J. B. Menardi, president and GM of Cortez Mining and Reduction Co, says the 50 ton mill near Golconda, in Mill Canyon, will be finished in two weeks and fully operating in a month. He reports improving ore bodies, main ledge 3 to 10 feet wide with smaller ledges, a 900 foot tunnel tapping the ledge at 400 feet, a winze at 80 feet, and ore values in gold silver and lead though gold recovery is about two dollars per ton. About 25 workers are on site with night shifts in the tunnel.

Saturday night workers at the Giroux mine were paid in full and told the company would not resume Sunday. A new ore discovery in the Ora claim, a high grade porphyry ore, supports continued shipments of 1000 to 1200 tons daily for nine months.
