Fatal Freight-Train Tragedy in Las Vegas
Nevada dispatch reports Fred Knecht seal clerk for the Salt Lake Railroad in Las Vegas was killed by a freight train in the railroad yards Sunday night. His head and arm were severed from the body in the accident. Nearby, Tuscarora suffered its worst fire in years on Wednesday, destroying three residences before firefighters contained it. The Primeaux Sherman and O Keefe buildings were burned, with the latter pulled down to halt the blaze. An Indian hospital proposed for Carson City at a cost of 15000 dollars may be built north or west of the Carson Indian school following health department recommendations. Cattle ranchers report hundreds of dollars in losses from Alphine range cattle killed in Storey and Lyon Counties, with authorities pursuing several leads. The disappearance of about 10000 dollars, allegedly the savings of Japanese waiter George Wada killed in the Southern Pacific case, remains surrounded by mystery as only 1000 dollars are accounted for through a friend. Wada, described as uneducated yet artistically talented, is said to have possessed the funds before his death.

Gasoline Kills Gophers on Elko Farmer’s Method
A farmer describes using gasoline poured into gopher holes with cotton wadding to suffocate burrowing animals. He carries gasoline and cotton, places sits at hole mouths, covers them, and returns about thirty minutes later to find the gophers dead. The method, he claims, works for many burrowing pests.
Popular Singer Loses Voice in Court Settlement
Richard Jose, famed tenor of the Old Homestead, testified in a Supreme Court suit seeking 25000 from the Orpheum Company. He described a sudden loss of silvery voice and a aging appearance after an Alhambra theater accident. The case was settled after a conference.
