How Jake Eggers Fell Into Politics

Jacob Eggers, incumbent State Controller, narrowly shifted into public life after a mine shaft accident in Elko County. A 23 year Nevada mining veteran, he later served as Elko County Assessor for sixteen years before winning the State Controller post four years ago. Born January 1834 in Germany, he grew up in Illinois and came to Nevada in 1875. He married in Elko in 1897.

Born in Oswego New York he came to Coloma California in 1850 and held roles as Wells Fargo agent, El Dorado County recorder, and US Land Office receiver. He chaired Nevada's constitutional convention and served as Secretary of State, later joining the Mint and Masonic bodies. He leaves a daughter Mrs D R Sessions and two sons M D Noteware and W C Noteware.
