A basement boiler room fire at the Hotel Golden in Reno at about 1 30 a m trapped crowds of hotel guests. Firemen cleared the area as 200 guests escaped unharmed while smoke and water damaged upper floors. Loss estimated at 30000 dollars.
James Coop, a pioneer leaser of Manhattan, was buried from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Juhl and Fogle Stray Dog lease. Sheltered by rock, he escaped death as tons of earth caved around him. Volunteers rescued him. he walked out unharmed though nearly frozen. The note later mentions missing mining man Grier S. Anderson, last heard in San Francisco in January 1915, and cattleman Henry Miller’s death in San Francisco in October. Plans for a new Navy describe 850 foot ships, 35 000 tons, 82 to 85 knots, costing 20 500 000 dollars each with ten 14 inch guns.

W L Vinson known as Uncle Billy was found dead in his Tonopah cabin Sunday around 11 30 by Fred Spaulding Pheonix lodging house owner. A note and cyanide near the body indicate self inflicted death. Vinson once a millionaire in mining finances later lost fortune through Wall Street plunges and came to Nevada three years ago to revive wealth. A week earlier a shipment he rented was allegedly attached by creditors. The Nevada Industrial Commission reports three miner deaths in separate incidents: Clifford Mead fatally cave in at Nevada Wonder mine Won der. Paul Pappas crushed by an ore train at Ruths Nevada Consolidated Copper. and another man killed by a blast at Groix Consolidated Kimberly Ely district.
