Cotton Goods Profiteers and Enduring Price Chicanery
The piece exposes profiteers who triple prices after cotton jumps. It cites a yard of fabric rising from 86 cents to 1.05 dollars, with only two cents real cost increase for two ounces of cotton, yet a 70 cent markup inflated by a factor of three. It argues that tripling raw material costs cannot justify matching product price hikes.
