A Manchester City Council dispatch reports 40000 to 60000 people in poorer districts near starvation due to hard times in the cotton industry. Similar hardship is seen in London and other UK cities, with winter forecast as especially severe for the poor.
The St Louis Exposition nears end with sale dates on September 19 20 28 and October 4 6 19 20 26 27. A ranch in Newark Valley White Pine County named the Mc Menemy ranch is offered for sale with improvements horses and cattle. The property includes a new dwelling barn and cellar and produces about 100 tons of wild hay annually with a small alfalfa section and good range. The offer is described as a bargain and inquiries go to A Florio or J B Brane in Eureka Nevada dated October 6 1904.
Apple varieties Wealthy Hass Duchess of Oldenburg and Strawberry offered at one cent per pound by the ten, with bargains over ten pounds at less than one cent. Quantities delivered in Eureka priced at two cents a pound. Orders taken in Eureka. Williams Smith Newark Valley White Pine County.

The Lafollette faction wins at Madison as the Supreme Court upholds the State Central Committee decision seating Lafollette backers over Stalwarts. The ruling concludes the committee governs factional disputes with three justices in favor and one dissent.

D F Tarpey died in San Francisco last week from Brights disease. He lived in Business City Pioche and White Pine County and was involved in several mining properties. He was long a land agent for the Southern Pacific Company.
A Berlin dispatch reports Princess Charlotte of Saxe Meiningen urges plural marriage to curb divorce, provoking royal scandal talk. The Kaiser may oppose the pamphlet and consider an inquiry into her sanity. In New Hampshire, Christian Science legality was upheld by the state Supreme Court last week.
Dispatch from Goldfield reports hundreds of Colorado miners arriving, with non unionists and Citizens Alliance members met by bitter reception from local union men. Union strength is high. non unionists are repeatedly informed they are not welcome. Also notes Colorado exiles on the water route seeking help against relocation. A separate note extols water for digestion and health.
