Senatorial Irrigation Committee visit to Nevada received Col. H B Maxson’s data on rivers lakes and land. Findings list Humboldt Carson Amargosa Colorado Reese Little Humboldt Walker Truckee Quinn Owyhee Virgin Salmon Marys Kings Muddy and others totaling over 2000 square miles of lake surface. 1880 census notes 35 rivers 925 lakes and ponds. State covers 72 million acres with 1 million water, 2.5 million timber, 30 million swale, 16 million mineral land and 20 million agricultural area. Seventy thousand acres cultivated in 1899. 500,000 irrigated two years earlier per State Surveyor General.

Rich Nevada County ore crush tops California record

Nevada City California November 15 The greatest crushing of gold ore ever made in California was finished there. Two days of operation yielded nearly 500000 dollars worth of amalgam from the Siz town to Ove mine ore. E A Wilson mine manager brought 00 sacks of ore for safe keeping valued at 400000 dollars with actual yields about 50 dollars excess. The rock was so rich that the mill stopped hourly to unclog batteries and raised stamps by block and tackle. It was the richest ore crash through any mill in the state in the same period.
