A San Francisco dispatch reports Judge Van Fleet ordered the National Bank of Tonopah and Milly & Company of Sacramento to pay Bartha Smith the full draft amount of 4779 plus interest. Smith, a Nevada resident, had given a draft years earlier for 1779 on Tonopah Bank while visiting Sacramento. the draft lapsed, the Tonopah Bank later paid it, and the Tonopah Bank later closed. The court ruled the bank must compensate Smith in full. Meanwhile, Nevada prison warden Ray Baker pursues convict Baron J. La Rose near Verdi, claiming he is surrounded and will be captured. a dog injured by a wagon wheel aided a guard in locating La Rose. Also, George Kitemeyer of Carson reported a horse death caused by a horseshoe fragment lodging in its bowels discovered after postmortem.
