In the Rose in the Ring, Paul Jenison, a Virginia fugitive, hides under Braddock’s circus. Clown Grinaldi recognizes him as the “boy murderer” with a $500 reward. Braddock, pressed by money woes, agrees to hand him to authorities but relents when David offers $3,000 inheritance. David becomes Jack Snipe the new clown, while Mrs Braddock weighs her husband’s harsh demands, and a shady Colonel Grand looms as a threatening figure. The cast debates honor, loyalty, and danger as romance, deceit, and factional tensions surface within the circus milieu.
