A Jamaica shopkeeper buys a thousand pounds of ice to outdo a rival. The next day the town floods for cold drinks, profits soar, and the rival’s left-over stock is bought by a crafty boy who sells it to him for four shillings, causing a comic sting in the tale.
In a New York hotel scene Colonel William F. Cody known as Buffalo Bill meets Jim Thornton, the eccentric manologist. The manager introduces Thornton to Cody, who asks about Bills origin, as Thornton greets him warmly in this vivid social encounter.

City of Eureka warns that after Monday October 23 1916 any dog running at large without a muzzle in Eureka and vicinity will be killed without further notice. The action follows a rabid coyote visit to Eureka on Friday that bit three town dogs.
