Beef Packers Win Immunity Ruling in Chicago Court
Judge Humphrey ruled March 21 that all beef packers indicted last summer on restraint of trade charges are immune as individuals but corporations must stand trial. The decision limits immunity to individuals while denying it to corporations, with the government favored against the corporations and opposed for individuals. A Washington dispatch notes Roosevelt discussed the decision with Moody Taft and Garckell and that an appeal may be considered if a solid basis exists. Moody called the ruling significant for future anti trust prosecutions.
