The Bray bill to appoint a State Auditor to examine books of county officials statewide and report annually was approved by a large Assembly vote and moves to the Senate. Proponent Bray argues it will save funds, prevent theft, expose dishonest officials, and keep state finances orderly with centralized investigations rather than local grand juries.
New York on March 14 reports Oscar Hammerstein engages Mme Schumann-Helnk for next season at Hammerstein's. She will sing in Italian, French and German among a lineup that includes Melba Calve Nordica and Mary Garden plus about a dozen male celebrities at the Manhattan venue.
Nevada earns praise for independent governance as its Legislature passes anti railroad measures. Governor Sparks refuses railroad lobby demands, contrasting with California's Legislature and Governor. Boyd Regulation bill vetoed by railroad interests, while Nevada enacts protections against discrimination and exactions by Southern Pacific.
A Paris lawyer Edward Kelly demanded 175000 for services in Anna Gould’s divorce from Count Hoode Unstellane. Gould and her brother George Gould reportedly oppose paying the excess fee. Condert Brothers and Lorenzo Semple declined to comment. Kelly formerly practiced law in New York.

Mil ton Crowe aged 17 shot and killed his father E G Crowe at their home near Brunswick seven miles from Carson in an alcohol fueled rampage to stop an alleged murder of his mother and sister. Milton and Fred Crowe were wounded, Frank escaped. Milton recovered a pistol and fired, killing his father brain pierced. The family, living in poverty, faced severe injuries and medical concerns from deep shotgun wounds.
The proposed subdivision of the Second Judicial District into two districts, with Humboldt on one side and Washoe and Churchill on the other, met a blow as Judge Pike announced he and Judge Orr will not resign from the Second Judicial District. Bonnifield had hoped to be appointed to the new post and now faces opposition from Pike and Orr. His supporters urge resignations from the two incumbents.
The National Wagon Makers Association met in Chicago and agreed to lift the retail prices of buggies wagons and other crafts by nearly half this spring. The decision was unanimously ratified by 47 members. The Constitutional Convention for the proposed State of Oklahoma has adjourned and will submit the constitution to voters for ratification at a special election on August 6.
Mayor R A Falkenberg and associates win a Nevada Legislature franchise for a railroad from Sobura on Walker Lake Reservation through the Walker Lake mining district to Hawthorne. A company to be formed as Nevada Southern and Walker River Railroad Company will issue Donda of 200000 for completion. Falkenberg plans a Walker Lake resort to host visitors from the southern mining district in summer.

Nevada State News reports the Western Pacific will extend the old Nevada Central line from Austin to Phonolite, a new mining camp about 26 miles southeast of Fairview, amid regional transport efforts. Joe Baker, famed in Winnemucca and Paradise Valley, loses both feet to frostbite and will undergo ankle removals. Union miners at Rosebud deport five involved in Cripple Creek labor troubles, warning deadly consequences if they stay. General Coxey, famed for his 1894 march, now mines in Fairview and pursued mining acquisitions. Edward Tilton plans a Meadow Valley Wash survey to restore through traffic within two weeks. Boston March 15 The Democratic State Committee held a dinner for William J Bryan with George Frederick Williams of Boston declaring Bryan the acknowledged leader of the National Democratic party. Williams urged Bryan to stand if he authorizes it while noting Roosevelt may block Republicans seeks.

Blair reports Jack Walsh a former railroad conductor fatally shot Charles Meyers and Jack Harrington at a depot after a gambling dispute. Walsh allegedly faced beating and threats over winnings after Meyers and Harrington demanded half of his eighty dollar roulette payoff. The incident follows Walsh’s discharge for gambling.
