Western interests unite to curb rail freight rates
Commercial, agricultural and industrial groups from 11 western states formed the Intermediate Rate Association at Salt Lake City to oppose lower through freight rates to Pacific terminals and seek federal hearings. The body plans legislative action to preserve long and short haul protections and urges Congress to amend the transportation act to curb rate manipulation. More than 100 clubs and utilities commissions are represented.

Mrs Josephine Foster and Mr Ulmont Pastorino wed Wednesday evening at the bride’s Paul street home in Eureka. Judge T A Burdick officiated with attendants Eldredge Porch and Annie Porch and witnesses Charles Depaoli and Jean Davis. The bride teaches at Bureksa County High School and directed May Day and a senior play. The groom, son of Mrs Kate Pastoring, works in mining and ranching.

Old Time Resident Taken Sudden Ill
Phil Parent, an elderly resident, was taken suddenly ill last week during Dr Brennen’s absence. Initial suspicion pointed to ptomaine poisoning, but examination in Elko showed kidney trouble and severe illness. Dr Brennen and his wife, returning from Salt Lake City, were intercepted at Elko with Robert Kelley bringing a trained nurse to Eureka. patient remains in serious condition with little improvement.

Frank Romano Reacquires Former Diamond Valley Ranch
Last year Frank Romano sold his ranch in Diamond Valley to B. C. Johnson and W. H. Shirley who have managed the property. This week the ownership reverted to the original owner. The Romano couple return from California and plan to live on the ranch again. Johnson has gone back to his Sulphur ranch and Shirley is expected to move to Eureka.

Leadville Mill Manager J W Wilcox Takes Charge

Edgar Sadler Buys 61 Head of Cattle in Eureka Trade
Edgar Sadler of Diamond Valley accepted delivery in Eureka Tuesday of 61 head of stock cattle purchased from William Mendes Jr. of Duck Water. The band was mostly cows and calves with a few steers. The price paid for 51 head was 25 dollars per head, calves included. Eugene Johnson offered 10 dollars more per head later, but Sadler declined.

Little Girl Severely Burned in Desert Ranch Incident
Doctor and Mrs. W H Brennen returned home from Salt Lake City and Elko trip when they reached J P Jacobsen ranch in Diamond Valley. The five year old child was badly burned after a pan of hot water was overturned on Friday, scalding her left leg from knee to foot. She received first aid but needed further treatment and dressing for deep burns.

Young Tom Moore Seriously Injured in Horse Accident
Dr W H Brennen visited in Eureka after Tom Moore was thrown from a horse and brought for surgical care. X rays show the left upper arm bone broken near the joint with the bones out of alignment. Three surgeons reduced the fracture and placed a plaster cast, with doubt about the outcome. If unsatisfactory, the father W A Moore may take his son to San Francisco for specialist treatment.

During the absence of Dr and Mrs Brennen their residence was broken into and robbed. Officers searched the homes of Marie Rogers and Eve Shelton in the red light district at 2 oclock and found the girls with the loot. They were arrested and bail set at 3000 each but could not meet it. Both defendants face second degree burglary charges and may plead guilty. City notes include a stray remark from a merchant about starting life as a barefoot boy.
