A Star reporter visits dry ranches east and south of town as crops break ground. Alfalfa lettuce radishes and onions show good start while kaffir corn millet and potatoes push up. H J Cooper Western Pacific agent says irrigation not required here and has located 920 acres seeded to potatoes with sprouts already visible.
In Walla Walla Valley Washington about 100 horses have died from a mysterious ailment described as walking disease. Affected animals wander aimlessly walk into fences and other obstructions and show blindness and madness in late stages. Some perish within a night while others survive a week or two before dying or being shot to end suffering.
Figures from the Department of Commerce and Labor show Resorepro hosting manufacturing establishments with an investment approaching $2,000,000. The sector employs about 10 wage earners with salaries and wages totaling roughly $420,000.
The South Fork Flour Mill and conte nte were destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. Fire started in the attic, possibly from a hot box or machinery friction.
