Karns Named Carson Postmaster Nominee by Wilson

Albert B. Karns, chief deputy in the United States Marshal office, has been appointed postmaster at Carson with Senate confirmation pending. Karns led his civil service exam class of nine, ranking highest. McAdoo orders curtailment of transcontinental schedules from Chicago west, effective June 2, saving about 11.7 million train miles and roughly 18 million dollars yearly. Principal routes including Santa Fe to Los Angeles, C N W, UP and SP to San Francisco, Burlington and Northern to Portland, and C M St P to Seattle will be affected. Fast trains to four Pacific terminals aim for 72 hours, secondary in 78 hours, extra fares eliminated.
