Festivities next Monday and Tuesday promise a large Fourth of July celebration featuring base ball, horse races, bucking contests and dances. The Eureka Ball team aims for strong games on the 4th and 5th against Palisade and Carlin. Lineups include Laird, Travers, Breen, Merialdo, Cline and others. Breen resumes second base after a broken nose. A cemented pavilion and watered grounds support fast play, with a social dance tonight at 8:30, tickets 75 cents.

Census bureau data reveal Nevada's male to female ratio last year 148.4 to 100, near historic highs. Foreign born whites were 19.1 percent of the population, down 2.9 percent from 1910. Women Sentenced for Burglary With Doctor’s Guidance
In district court Judge Peter Breen presided as Rogers and Eva Shelton pled guilty to burglary. They received sentences to more than five years in Carson State Prison after testimony by Dr Brennen, the complainant’s witness, who claimed to offer parole help. Deputy Sheriff Earl Cobb escorted the prisoners to Carson and returned to report they were the only women inmates at the prison.

Joba proprieter of the Eureka Hotel and Market at Main and Silver streets in Eureka converted the large saloon room into a store. Shelving counters and glass cases were moved to create a roomy shop with a meat and produce cellar. He plans to boost staff and offer better service for July 4 celebrations, promising Summer specials and beverages.
