Senator Pittman land bill would grant drilling rights in Nevada

Senator Pittman’s measure authorizes private citizens or associations to obtain a two year permit to drill for underground water on up to 2560 acres of public land in Nevada not suited to surface irrigation. Development must begin within six months and continue diligently until water enables profitable irrigation of at least 20 acres.

Sagebrush Ashes Worth $100 a Ton in Nevada

Nevada may launch a sagebrush ash industry after tests show ashes from southern Nevada contain sufficient potash. A Virginia firm offered $100 per ton f o b Probe for ashes sent over the next year. If developed, burning brush could yield 160 pounds of ash per ton of crude sagebrush worth about $3 after costs.
