Scarce Enumerators Urged for Nevada Census

George B. Russell, supervisor of the Nevada census, warns that applications for enumerator jobs are lagging across the state as prosperity reduces applicant interest. About 90 positions remain, with January 26 deadline for submissions. The test mirrors 1900 and emphasizes practical scheduling and farm schedules, with local boards assisting, to ensure accurate population and agriculture counts.

Growth of Gas Engines Spurs Large Producer Plants

The United States hosts over 500 producer gas power plants from 15 to 6000 HP, mostly using anthracite coal. A US Geological Survey bulletin notes engines now rival steam, with 2000 to 3500 HP units common in steel plants and some facilities housing multiple 5400 HP units. Improvements in on site gas production enabled rapid expansion since 1900.

Denied Pardon or Parole for 1908 Socialist Labor candidates

The Nevada board of Pardons at Carson last week refused both pardon and parole for Preston and Smith, Socialist Labor presidential candidates. Attorney Caesar A. Roberts argued errors in the former trial and new evidence, while the Western Federation of Miners contested the trial’s fairness. Justice Sweeney and Judge Hilton debated Preston’s testimony before the board, which found it imprudent for a pardon or parole.
