Rail line delays from harsh weather at Eureka and Palisade

In Palisade on January 12, crews along the Eureka and Palisade Railroad face slow progress due to extreme cold. About 60 workers are back, with pile and bridge work near Palisade Canyon finished and the construction train operating beyond the J. P. Raine ranch. Most crews focus on widening the right of way along the creek toward foothills, while ground frost slows grade work. Contractors Chadwick and Sykas with Oiatre, Whitrell’s agent, toured Palisade but postponed further inspection south due to deep snow at the summit. Plans remain unclear, but activity is expected to resume when weather improves, though a two-month suspension was previously anticipated.
