Maine Battleship Wreck Removal Nears Completion
General Bixby reports the Maine wreck in Havana harbor will be floated out and sunk off Cuba by March 1 if no unforeseen issues arise. About a third of the ship, all forward sections, have already been dumped in the sea, with the after turret unbolted and ready for transfer to shore. The dual fate includes the mast at Governor's Island and the other to Arlington National Cemetery. The final removal leaves only submerged remnants and marks of the catastrophe. The latest note adds that the British submarine A3 sank after a collision near the Isle of Wight with 14 crew dead during a diving exercise.
