Influenza Situation Report From Eureka Health Official

County Health Officer Dr Brennen reports influenza spreading at a similar rate to last week with a few more cases. Two deaths occurred this week with no current critical cases in Eureka though Harry Delaney’s condition is frail. Nearby areas show favorable recovery trends.

Quiet Holidays Amid Influenza Winter in Eureka

Amid influenza restrictions no public festivities or Christmas trees will be held in Eureka this season. The Nob Hill Fire Company's New Year masquerade is canceled and Sunday School gift drives are halted. Snow blankets the region, with ten inches overnight and six inches more in Palisade, threatening drifted roads.

Death of Mrs Margaret McNaughton at Ruby Hill

Mrs Margaret McNaughton widow of John McNaughton died at Ruby Hill on Friday afternoon from pneumonia after about a week of influenza. A native of Washington DC she was 54 and survived by six sons John Angus Daniel Dewey Walter Theodore and two daughters Mrs William Gibson and Miss Pearl. The private funeral will be held tomorrow forenoon at the family home on Ruby Hill.

Eureka’s First Influenza Death Reported

The first Eureka influenza death was announced Tuesday morning. A young woman from the restricted district, known as Pansy Ellis, died from pneumonia after influenza. She had lived in Eureka about a year. her legal name was Mrs Charles Burker, a Humboldt Georgia native, 33 years old. Burial occurred Wednesday forenoon at the city cemetery.

Death of Former Burekan Pioneer Al. S. Smith

Tonopah Times reports Al. S. Smith a well known Tonopah citizen and State pioneer was found dead at his Cross avenue home about 8 o'clock last night. Last seen Friday at midnight leaving friends for home. Body partly clothed, apparent sudden death while preparing for bed. Native of Illinois, 74 years old. Smith ran a Eureka photograph gallery before moving to Tonopah in 1901.

Death of Indian Billy De paoli on Antelope Valley Ranch

Billy De paoli an Indian long settled on the Depaoli ranch five miles east of Eureka died December 4 after a four day bout with pneumonia at Dick Allison’s Antelope Valley ranch. His death marks the passing of another early settler in this sparsely populated region headed toward the happy hunting grounds.

Nevada War Savings drive appeals for remaining pledges

The year ends with many outstanding War Savings Stamps pledges as Nevada trails its quota by about half a million dollars. The U S Government pleads with each pledger to honor contracts, urging those who have spent their Christmas money to buy more stamps for Uncle Sam.
