Eureka man arrested for check fraud in Friday arrest

Eugene P Hughes was taken before Justice of the Peace Burdick after being arrested in Eureka on Friday for issuing five checks without funds. The checks drew on First National Bank of Oakland and were cashed by Eureka merchants. Bond set at 500 dollars. preliminary examination scheduled for December 28. Hughes, with wife and two children, arrived by train about a month ago claiming his automobile and 600 dollars in cash were lost in a fire. The family has rented a Spring Street house while Hughes pursued gambling.

Senate passes assessment bill extending annual work deadline

Senator Charles B. Henderson reports the Senate has approved the act extending the annual assessment work period for 1920 to July 1, 1921, with the same extension applying to oil shale claims. The measure now goes to the House on Tuesday.

District Court Winter Term Calendar Noted

The Winter term calendar was called. In Lee Arnett v M B Brown et al the hearing of the demurrer and motion to strike was continued to be taken up on motion. Berolova Jary case demurrer set for Saturday December 18. Demurrer to the complaint in that case overruled by consent. defendant given 20 days to answer. Other calendar cases were passed for the term.
