William J. Calhoun of Chicago is appointed Minister to China and has accepted. The Chinese government expressed pleasure in receiving him. On December 10 Mrn, Jobn Swanbeck assumed control of the boarding house formerly run by Joh Adama. Snow drifts blocked a train and the ore mine filled, so seven men from the company mine were sent to shovel snow Wednesday. Crews from Palisade and Eureka cleared the Ruby Hill railroad line on Thursday, enabling a train to pass early Friday and load ore at the mines.

H A Dana and George Fraser joined with Rep Bartlett and attorney Bert Gibbons to form the Democratic Press Company with 20000 dollars in capital. The plan calls for a Democratic newspaper in Nevada, likely Reno, to be published soon in San Francisco and Nevada. Mrs. L J Colwell, niece of C P Huntington, is in Reno seeking divorce from her New York broker husband.
