Ex sheriff Tom Logan denies a $1100 county books shortage found by expert accountants. He says all funds were accounted for with receipts and a January release from the board. He suggests perquisites, totaling just over $1100, explain the deficit and plans to attend the next county board meeting to settle the matter.
Engineers Hall and Kirk have assessed Sutro tunnel condition and necessary repairs. Mining superintendents of Comstock will tour the tunnel and report observations. After agreeing on total repair costs, replacing timbers will proceed. Estimated repairs not to exceed 15000 dollars, paid by mining companies with rebates from ore royalties.
The Virginia Chronicle reports progress lowering water in the . & C. shaft with the elevator and Reidler pumps draining the lode. The Combination shaft water level is two feet four inches lower since draining of the O. & S. shaft began, implying Ward shaft pumps will unwater the lode to the deepest depth reached in Comstock deep mining.
