County Commissioners Reid Johnson and Fulkerson with the County Clerk and District Attorney met the County Board of Equalization on August 22. The board reduced assessments for R. May on a store building, the Masonic and Hall buildings, granted a 1100 US Army exemption for Peter Meriado, and struck several patented mines from the assessment roll after affidavits for relief were presented. The board adjourned sine die.

Jazz Dance Tonight At Eureka Pavilion

Eureka Man Ends Life In Gunshot Tragedy
Charles Alotto died from a self inflicted gunshot wound on north Main Street in Eureka. The inquest found death caused by a discharge of a shotgun, with evidence of premeditation. He came to Eureka last fall to work at the Tognoni parlors and had recently prepared to operate at the Landa Hotel. His funeral was held at Hjul's, interment in Catholic cemetery.

Death of Thomas R. Jewell Pioneer Resident of Palisade
Thomas R. Jewell died at his Ogden Utah home after a long life as an Eureka County pioneer. Born in Cornwall England he settled in Palisade in the early 1870s running a hotel and butcher shop and serving as Justice of the Peace. He was a county commissioner and moved to Ogden in 1906 where he later resided until death last Sunday.
