Progress of the War From the Lys to Ypres Front
The German drive in the Lys Ypres sector reached about 14 miles deep on a 3 4 mile front. They seized Messines ridge Neuve Eglise and Bailleul with fierce fighting, while the British and French countered. By week’s end the Germans held Meteren and parts of Messines ridge as Allies counter attacked, leaving a volatile stalemate near Ypres with continued large scale attacks expected.
