Story of Loss of the Steamer Titanic
Survivors recount the Titanic disaster as the Carpathia reached New York, detailing 1595 souls lost after the ship struck an iceberg off Newfoundland. Notable figures aboard included Colonel John Jacob Astor, Major Archibald Butt, Ismay, and Isidor Straus. The ship sank bow first in frigid seas after failed lifeboat adequacy, while survivors describe calm leadership by Captain Smith and the haunting shipboard music of Nearer My God to Thee. The Carpathia rescued all sixteen lifeboats as dawn broke, with generous Carpathia passengers sharing their cabins and garments.
