The Tuscarora Nevada Mines Co withdraws pumps from the Dexter mine and will let water fill the workings after 18 months of pumping. Workers have not been paid for three months. Recaptured jail escapee George Peterson faces jail breaking and horse stealing charges. An 18 month old Beatty baby died from scalding burns after falling into hot water. Mr Alyward is related to Goldfield’s Jack Alyward. There is a light humorous note on household chores by Luke McLuke titled With the Bells.
The Salt Lake Mining Review recounts ore finds from old days: two grubstaked prospectors near Coeur d'Alene discover a major vein after a quarrel. Granite Mountain in Montana yields a new vein after a powder blast. A Colorado trail prospect earns $70,000 from a rock find, and Camp Bird near Ouray resurfaces rich ore from a forgotten drift. The Passenger Association may offer 90‑day one way fares to the Panama-Pacific Exposition.
In Tonopah Nevada excitement grows as West End and Jim Butler Mining Companies clash over an apex ore claim. West End offers 12000 dollars for extracted ore and half the remaining tonnage. Butler rejects. Both sides halt mining for 30 days as lawyers prepare for possible injunction in Carson City.
The Tonopah Bonanza reports Ole Elliot and Kid Highley use a car as a hoist at Copper Canyon mining site. They attach the auto to a whip hoist to lift rock from a 30 foot shaft, saving time and money. The system lets the car move back after the bucket fills, improving efficiency for prospects.
Nevada editorial critique rails at a Western candidate who sent only one card and argues newspaper pay harms efficiency. It laments A B Gray’s federal appointment and notes his cash salary harming performance. Also reports a Carson City sale of Indian baskets for about $2000 heading to Pittsburg.
The joint quarterly report certifies the foregoing as a true and correct statement of Eureke County Nevada finances for the quarter ending March 31 1914. County Auditor Edgar Eather signs the certificate.
